Legacy Property is partnering with the Illawarra Coke Company (ICC) to redevelop the 18.2 hectare former Corrimal Cokeworks Site, located in the northern suburbs of Wollongong. The Site is strategically located adjacent to Corrimal train station and presents a unique opportunity to transform this now derelict industrial Site into the most desirable new residential precinct in the Illawarra region. Being the largest brownfield development site in the Illawarra, it will enable $750 million dollars of economic activity within the region as well as creating 2,400 construction jobs.
The rezoning process is underway and has been endorsed by Wollongong City Council and received a Gateway Determination issued by the Department of Planning & Environment in August 2018. The concept master plan proposes approximately 550 dwellings comprising a mix of low-mid rise apartments and medium density dwellings. Rezoning is expected to be exhibited in 2021 followed by extensive site preparation works to undertake demolition, remediation and bulk earthworks including a substantial realignment of the existing creek corridor traversing the site. Development will occur in stages over approximately 5-7 years.
